I have been making and remaking and remaking and remaking (you get the point) the same baby afghan for like a year now. I've finished like four of them and they were all turned into blankets – the kids really love them – but we still don't have one we can claim as "the afghan." The problem is that they are all made out of acrylic (the thickest, chunkiest yarn you can find - like Red Heart Super Saver or something). They're nice afghans, but not exactly what I had in mind. I can't seem to find (or make) a happy medium. All I want is the right gauge and the right texture and the right color. It seems like such a simple thing, but it's really not. At least not for me. And if it's not for me, who am I to say that nobody else has a problem with this? So I decided to take a deep breath and search the web for some other options… Those led me to Bernat Baby Ultra Soft Yarn in Baby Pink, which is part of their Softee line/collection of yarns. I was really hopeful that it would be exactly right, but I was disappointed when I got to the store and saw how sheer and light it was: It's really pretty in the ball: Pretty, but see-through. I think because it feels like a bigger yarn (size 3 crochet), though, when crocheted with it you don't really notice how much light goes through. If I were to make this afghan again, I would use a larger hook to make it bulkier. But the problem was that the pink color itself is kind of a weird shade. It's kind of like a very light hot pink. This is the exact color that my friend calls "Barbie Pink." We were on a play date at another friend's house when I was pregnant with my first child, and her mom complimented me on how good I looked…and then she said, "Oh! You are glowing - you look so healthy! And you have such pretty skin...it's so fair...and you have such pink cheeks!" I'm not kidding…she said all that. 8eeb4e9f32 28
